Reymark Betco shone once again for Savouge, leading them past UST-Gameville, 26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, to secure their second straight win in the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference on Friday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
After being rested in their opening game — a four-set loss to the Alpha Insurance Protectors — Betco exploded for the second consecutive match, scoring 20 points on 19-of-31 spikes and adding one block to guide the Spin Doctors.
Savouge improved their record in the league, organized by Sports Vision and supported by Alpha Insurance, Premiere EMS, Buffalo’s Wings n’ Things, and Arena Plus, to 2-1, moving into solo second place following their early setback.
“‘Yung maturity ng team at disiplina lumabas. Nag-lessen kami ng error so I think ‘yun ‘yung nag-help sa amin. Talagang team effort ‘yung nangyari,” said Spin Doctors head coach Sydney Calderon.
“Napakalaking bagay ni Betco kasi nasa momentum siya eh. Binigyan ko ng playing time kasi sabi niya sa akin, ‘Pag bibigyan mo ako ng playing time, promise gagawin ko ang best ko’. So I think kita naman natin sobrang ganda,” she added.
Sherwin Umandal nearly carried UST-Gameville single-handedly into the fourth set, contributing four of his six points in the third frame’s 5-2 run to extend the match.
However, the duo of Mark Calado and Shawie Caritativo shut down the Golden Spikers’ comeback in the fourth frame, securing the win after one hour and 55 minutes.
Calado finished with 15 points and 10 excellent receptions, while Giles Torres added 12 points. Caritativo chipped in nine points as Savouge played a cleaner game, committing just 19 errors compared to UST-Gameville’s 36.
Savouge will aim to extend their winning streak to three games when they face Criss Cross on Wednesday at the Paco Arena.
Meanwhile, UST-Gameville (1-1) will look to rebound on Sunday against VNS at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Gboy de Vega led the Golden Spikers with 17 points and 12 excellent receptions, while JJ Macam and Trevor Valera added 12 and 11 points, respectively. UST-Gameville star Josh Ybañez was limited to just eight points.
All games are aired live on One Sports and One Sports+, as well as via the Pilipinas Live app, which offers video-on-demand options. Matches are also streamed on spikersturf.ph.
