The San Beda Lady Red Spikers ended their winning drought with a three-set win over Mapua Institute of Technology Lady Cardinals, while the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers overpowered Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights for their second win in a row, Monday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
The Lady Red Spikers were determined to end their 11-game losing streak, and it showed in their gritty win against the Lady Cardinals, 25-22, 26-24, 25-15. With both teams displaying questionable reception in the first two sets, it was San Beda who delivered in the crucial moments to pull off with a 2-0 lead. From there, the Mendiola-based squad were all business as they forced Mapua to commit error after error in the third, eventually sealing the victory. Skipper Iris Domingo roared the loudest for San Beda with 10 markers, while Satrianni Espiritu registered 8 markers. Katrina Racelis led the Lady Cardinals with 8 markers. The biggest story of the match was Mapula’s 40 errors, which ultimately sealed their demise.

In the first women’s game, JRU etched their second win in straight sets against the Lady Knights, 26-24, 25-14, 25-22. The Lady Bombers dominated their opponents with 42 attacks against 29, with Rosalie Pepito firing 18 of them. JRU pounced on Letran’s defense with a variety of attacks, especially in the second set. Montojo had 12 points for the Lady Bombers, 11 of them coming from attacks and the remaining point on her team’s lone block. Cynthia Molina had 7 points to lead Letran, 6 on spikes and 1 on block.
