Jimmy Alapag has received the biggest break he has been waiting for.
The 2011 PBA Most Valuable Player has been promoted by Sacramento to be the Kings’ player development coach for the upcoming NBA season.
Grateful is the 45-year-old PBA legend for the opportunity given to him by the Kings, headed by team owner Vivek Ranadivé and head coach Mike Brown.
“A dream come true.
“Proud to announce I’ll be joining Coach Mike Brown and his staff as a Player Development Coach for the upcoming NBA season. Incredibly blessed and thankful for this opportunity. Special thanks to Vivek, Monte McNair, Wes Wilcox, Paul Johnson, Anjali Ranadive, and the rest of the front office,” he expressed. “Also, to Coach Brown and his staff for trusting me. To my guy Bobby Jackson who believed and supported me from Day 1.”
Back in 2020, Alapag moved back to the States to try his luck in the NBA.
A good friend of his Vlade Divac introduced him to the brass of the Kings, which eventually signed him as assistant coach of G League affiliate Stockton.
As a coach, Alapag previously led San Miguel Alab to the 2018 ABL crown.
Now, he gets to live his dream in the biggest stage of them all.
