Remelie Herrero picks up the torch for Adamson

For Adamson University’s Remelie Herrero, leadership isn’t about titles — it’s about responsibility.

As the Lady Falcons’ captain, the 22-year-old first baseman has embraced the challenge of guiding her team, ensuring that their reign over UAAP softball remains unbroken.

Despite a stumble in Game 1 of the Finals against the University of the Philippines, Adamson still secured its 11th consecutive championship in Season 86.

And at the heart of that victory was Herrero, who, along with her fellow seniors, carried the weight of maintaining the school’s legendary dynasty.

“Kahit naman po before na andyan pa sila Ate Chai (Cantor) and Ate Alu (Gabriel), wala naman pong namimili kung sino magiging leader. Kasi sandalan po talaga namin ang isa’t isa; na kaya naming kunin ‘yung responsibility ng kahit anong position na ibigay sa ‘min,” Herrero said.

The Lady Falcons attribute their continued success to a strong foundation of trust and commitment — qualities that have propelled them to the top year after year.

So far, Adamson remains as dominant as ever, securing back-to-back shutout wins against the University of Santo Tomas (7-0) and Ateneo de Manila University (8-0).

“Sa loob kasi ng diamond, nagtutulungan kami. Kung ano man ‘yung maico-contribute namin at kung ano man ‘yung ibibigay na role ni coach sa ‘min, ‘yon ‘yung ginagampanan namin.

“So, as a senior, kailangan kong madala ‘yung mga bata na kung ano ‘yung dapat marating ng team, kasama namin sila,” shared Herrero, an Information Technology major.

Like any graduating senior, Herrero dreams of leaving the Adamson softball program exactly how she found it — on top.

“Ito talaga ‘yung motivation ko — na ma-defend namin ‘yung title at magawa ulit namin ‘yung mga nagawa namin the past seasons,” she emphasized.

“Yun lang ang pinaka-goal ko talaga, walang personal, kundi ang mapanatili lang (ang championship) sa San Marcelino.”

With Herrero at the helm, Adamson’s dynasty remains as strong as ever, proving that the heart of a champion beats in every Lady Falcon who takes the field.
