PVL: PLDT cruises to 2-0, overpowers NXLED

PLDT took down NXLED in straight sets, 25-17, 25-23, 25-22, to remain spotless in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The High Speed Hitters rose to 2-0 while keeping the Chameleons winless at 0-2.

“Happy na medyo natuloy namin yung momentum last game pero marami pa rin aayusin lalo mabigat yung mga susunod na kalaban so magpiprepare pa kami,” said PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort as they are scheduled to face Petro Gazz on Saturday.

After a runaway first frame, the High Speed Hitters encountered a reignited Chameleons side in the following two periods.

Savannah Davison put PLDT at set point in the second after a through-the-block spike, 24-22, before Kamille Cal pulled one back for NXLED with a solid block on the Fil-Canadian hitter.

But Davison responded with a booming crosscourt kill for the 2-0 advantage.

The Chameleons also tried to rally back in the third facing a 24-20 hole as Jessey De Leon committed an attack error while Jaila Atienza followed with a denial on Kiesha Bedonia to inch within 22-24 but their run ended as Cams Victoria’s kill in the next play went long.

“NXLED was a challenge but I’m glad we kinda stuck together and we were able to come back,” said Davison, who had 13 points, 10 excellent receptions, and 10 digs.

De Leon also shined in her starting role with 11 points including two service aces, while Majoy Baron delivered 10 points as well.

Three-time Best Libero Kath Arado also impressed with 29 digs out of her 41 attempts along with 12 excellent receptions.
