PSL: JL Delos Santos shines anew as Bulacan pounds Bicol for fifth win


JL Delos Santos’ all-around effort powered Koponang Lakan ng Bulacan to a 94-80 whipping of Bicol last Monday night for its second straight win in the Manila Bankers Life-Pilipinas Super League Pro Division Second Conference Dumper Cup at the San Leonardo Gym in Nueva Ecija.

Delos Santos, a Jose Rizal University standout, scattered 21 points that he laced with seven rebounds and eight assists for Bulacan, while Jason Ballesteros had a double-double of 14 markers and 15 boards.

Ivan Santos, Mark Pangilinan, and Jeric Serrano added 14, 12, and 10 points, respectively for Bulacan, which did an encore to a 63-62 escape over Quezon City last week and improved to 5-3 for seventh in the meet presented by Winzir and co-presented by Skin Care Depot, SCD Cosmetics and Dumper party-list, and supported by NET 25, Adcon, Wcube Solutions Inc., MDC, Unisol, Don Benitos, and Finn Cotton, with PBA and Gilas Pilipinas great Marc Pingris serving as Commissioner.

The Spicy Oragons reeled off to their fifth loss in a row, counting a sorry 66-69 defeat to Sta. Rosa Laguna also last week for a 2-6 slate.

In the other game, 1Munti trounced Bagong Cauyao-Homelab Nation 88-79 to rediscover its winning ways.

John Catimbuhan fired 16 points, grabbed three caroms, and issued five dimes for the Emeralds, while Domark Matillano added 15 and two.

Francis Camacho had 10 markers as 1Munti cut short its six-game losing streak that included a 71-80 setback at the hands of San Juan last Jan. 16 and raised its card to 2-6.

Cabuyao, coming off a 56-59 loss to San Pedro Laguna-ARS last week, absorbed its seventh straight defeat for a 1-7 slate.

James Martinez totaled 22 points and four rebounds for Bicol, while Paulo Castro had 13 markers.

Mario Bonleon, Jonathan Carandang, Ronnel Guerrero, and King Destacamento also combined for 43 points for the Oragons.

Sancho Vitug paced Cabuyao with 19 points and six rebounds, while Joel Jolangcob and Nano Alvarado contributed 17 and 13 markers, respectively.
