The future of women’s basketball will be showcased on the world stage
After Perlas Pilipinas made their 3×3 debut during the 2018 FIBA 3X3 World Cup, the young guns follow suit.
The Under-18 stalwarts of Perlas will make their FIBA 3X3 Under-18 World Cup debut on June 3-7, 2019, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
This is a pleasant development for women’s basketball after the quartet of Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, Gemma Miranda, and Janine Pontejos thrilled the Philippine Arena back in June, 2018. Perlas 3×3 finished in 17th place, while Pontejos bagged the gold medal in the Shoot-out contest.
However, the Under-18 squad of Gilas 3×3 will not be around.
According to the FIBA website, Gilas U18 3×3 will miss the event for the first time in six years.
The likes of Dalph Panopio, Carl Tamayo, and Rhayyan Amsali would have been eligible for the world event.
In 2017, the quartet of AJ Edu, Juan Gomez de Liano, Rhayyan Amsali, and Encho Serrano finished in 7th place in the global tourney.
