ILAGAN, ISABELA — Farm Fresh added to the woes of Petro Gazz, pulling off a commanding 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 sweep to notch back-to-back victories in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League On Tour at the Capital Arena here on Sunday.
After dropping their opener to the PLDT High Speed Hitters, the Foxies bounced back with a four-set win over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on Saturday.
They then followed it up with a straight-sets stunner over the Angels to improve to 2-1 in Pool A, securing solo third place.
“It was not a great game of volleyball [for us], let’s be honest. But you can’t only rely on playing well to win,” said Farm Fresh head coach Alessandro Lodi, unfazed by their 30 errors in the match. “You need to win some ugly games. You need to win games where you’re not performing well.”
“We didn’t want to win like that, but we’ll take it as it is. Like yesterday, honestly — at the end of the fourth set — and today at the end of the third, we just insisted. We were stubborn and refused to lose. That says something about our resilience and character,” the Italian mentor added.
To complete the sweep, Farm Fresh had to stage a gutsy comeback from a 21-23 deficit in the third set.
With no room for error, the Foxies delivered four straight points. Rachel Ann Daquis sparked the run with an off-the-block hit, followed by a tying point after Jonah Sabete’s down-the-line attempt sailed wide.
Trisha Tubu then took over, scoring back-to-back clever push shots over the defense to seal the match in one hour and 46 minutes.
Tubu led the charge with 15 points, while Jolina Dela Cruz and Caitlin Viray added 12 points each. Setter Alohi Robins-Hardy orchestrated the offense with 13 excellent sets.
Farm Fresh now looks to build on its momentum when it heads to the USJ-R Coliseum in Cebu City for a pair of matches against Galeries Tower and Nxled on July 26 and 27.
Petro Gazz, meanwhile, continues to struggle, falling to 1-3 and sitting in fifth place — just above winless Galeries Tower. The Angels also absorbed a straight-sets loss to PLDT the day before.
For the second consecutive match, Myla Pablo was the lone bright spot for Petro Gazz, finishing with 18 points off 17 attacks. Aiza Maizo-Pontillas was the next best scorer with only six points.
The Angels will close their pool play campaign on July 29 against Choco Mucho at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.
