ILAGAN, ISABELA — Still without star player Savi Davison, PLDT showed no signs of slowing down as it swept Petro Gazz, 25-22, 25-15, 25-16, to stay unbeaten in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League On Tour at the Capital Arena here on Saturday.
Jovie Prado and Kianna Dy stepped up with their best performances since returning from injury. Prado delivered 12 points along with 13 excellent receptions, while Dy chipped in 10 markers in a solid outing.
With the win, the High Speed Hitters improved to 2-0, tying Nxled at the top of Pool A standings.
“Siyempre, pag makakalaban mo ‘yung mga teams like Petro saka ‘yung mga top teams, happy na nakukuha namin ‘yung panalo. So, happy kami na nakapag-perform lahat,” said PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort, pleased with the team’s all-around effort.
Petro Gazz tried to mount a comeback in the third set, opening with a 6-3 lead, but PLDT quickly turned the tide. Behind the steady efforts of Dy, Prado, Mika Reyes, and Kiesha Bedonia, the High Speed Hitters grabbed control and moved ahead, 16-12.
The Angels threatened once more, closing the gap to 14-16 after a Marian Buitre hit and a PLDT error. However, that would be their last push, as Reyes, Jessey De Leon, and Majoy Baron joined forces to ignite a 9-2 finishing run, sealing the match in just 80 minutes.
PLDT now turns its focus to a crucial clash with Choco Mucho on Sunday at 6:30 PM, also at the Capital Arena, in a battle of powerhouse squads.
Meanwhile, Myla Pablo led Petro Gazz with 16 points, but the Angels dropped to 1-2, falling into a tie for fourth with the Flying Titans.
Petro Gazz will try to bounce back at 4:00 PM on the same day against Farm Fresh.
