France showed the Philippines why they are one of the odds-on favorites to win the 2019 FIBA Under-18 3×3 World Championship.
Gilas Pilipinas Girls’ 3×3 suffered a rude 2-22 rout with 39 seconds to spare at the hands of the no. 3 squad in the tournament to open Pool C play, Monday afternoon in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia.
France showed its might against the young Filipinas all game long, imposing their huge height advantage early in the contest.
After Camille Clarin scored Gilas’ first bucket just 37 seconds into the contest to tie the game at 1-all, the Philippines went on a dry spell as it could not buy a bucket.
Six-foot-two N’Dye Touré and 5-foot-11 Mariama Daramy took turns pounding the paint that led to a 9-1 advantage for the French.
Though a floater by pint-sized Ella Fajardo stopped the bleeding with four minutes left, the French continued to be unstoppable as Lisa Dufon found her touch.
The French trio showed no remorse for Gilas, as back-to-back triples by Dufon completed a 13-0 France run to seal the deal.
Dufon had eight points, while Toure and Daramy added six markers each.
Gilas Girls’ 3×3 will next face host team Mongolia at 6:40 pm.
The Scores:
Philippines 2 – Fajardo 1, Clarin 1, Surada 0, Pingol 0.
France 22 – Dufon 8, Touré 6, Daramy 6, Fuentes 2.
