Pasig Court nullifies POC chairman, president election results

The results of the elections held by the Philippine Olympic Committee that saw Peping Cojuanco declared as POC chairman for the fourth time was declared null and void by a Pasig Court, Wednesday afternoon.

The initial complaint was filed by the camp of former Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines chairman Ricky Vargas.

Vargas, the current PBA chairman, was disqualified from running against Cojuangco as he was alleged to not having attended the required number of general assembly attendance that is stated in the POC’s by-laws.

“Finally, we have obtained justice,” Vargas said in a statement.

With this, the court advised that a re-election be held on Friday, February 23, 2018. Both Vargas and Cycling head Bambol Tolentino, who was disqualified as well, will be eligible for the elections.

The current president of Maynilad Corporation was disqualified due to him attending just one assembly meeting in two years.

Cojuangco ran unopposed. He has been in office since 2004.
