Perpetual, Arellano dominate opening day tiffs

NCAA Season 93 Men’s Volleyball finalists University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas and Arellano University Chiefs opened the NCAA Season 94 Men’s Volleyball tournament with explosive wins at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Defending champions Perpetual made quick work of the San Beda University Red Spikers, 25-20, 25-23, 25-15.

Going for back-to-back titles, the season hosts were glad to open their title defense with a decisive win, according to head coach Sammy Acaylar.

“Coming from offseason games, medyo worried ako kasi we went to conditioning phase mg training namin and baka mabigat pa ang mga katawan nila. Good thing maganda ang pinakita today. Dinaan na rin lang siguro sa puso,” said Acaylar, the head coach of the 2017 Men’s National Team.

Ridzuan Muhali topped the Altas with 14 points while middle blocker Ronniel Rosales added 13 markers off seven attacks, four blocks, and two aces.

Patrick Palattao paced San Beda with 11 markers while Jomaru Amagan managed 10.

In the day’s first match, Arellano made short work of the Jose Rizal University Bombers, 25-21, 25-18, 25-21.

Open hitter Christian Dela Paz poured in a game-high 14 points while captain Christian Segovia and Jethro Cabillan each added nine markers for Arellano. The Chiefs dominated the net with a 16-2 advantage in block kills.

June Laxina and Roland Legaspi toppes the Bombers with eight and seven points, respectively.
