The NCAA has not yet identified the perpetrators involved in the assault on a referee that occurred after the Season 100 Seniors Basketball Tournament on Saturday.
Hercules Callanta, this season’s Management Committee president from Lyceum of the Philippines University, said that the league is still in the process of gathering and verifying details about the incident.
“We won’t have details yet,” Callanta told Tiebreaker Times.
“One of our referees was the subject of the mauling, and as far as who the perpetrators are, we are still looking at what the CCTV of MOA will show.”
According to Callanta, the alleged assault took place when a league official was on his way to the referees’ room.
Other accounts from players and coaches suggest that the referee, wearing uniform No. 7, was left bloodied in the backstage area of the Mall of Asia Arena.
Callanta noted that the league is still determining whether the individuals responsible were supporters of Benilde or Mapua.
“Because it was after the game of CSB and Mapua, we need to identify who was involved, regardless of which school’s supporters committed the act,” Callanta said.
“That’s what we need to ascertain.”
He added that the Management Committee is currently focused on meeting to discuss and compile any relevant details, and to validate the information collected so far.
“So far, the only thing that the mancomm is doing at the moment is to meet about it so that we can collate possible details, if there are validations to what we are seeing in the past or last night.”
Callanta also mentioned that the league is working on a statement regarding the altercation.
“We have yet to have a statement from the referee involved. And of course, all other information is still subject to validity and validation,” he said.
