NCAA 99: Amiel Acido caps elims with 20-20 game as Perpetual secures twice-to-beat

University of Perpetual System DALTA capped off the eliminations with a dominant 111-80 rout of San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the NCAA Season 99 Juniors Basketball Tournament on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

Amiel Acido popped off for a monstrous 23-point, 20-rebound double-double outing in the Junior Altas’ 31-point drubbing of the Golden Staglets.

Supporting Acido was Jan Pagulayan who led all scorers with 25 points off 50-percent shooting in Perpetual much-needed victory.

With this win, the Junior Altas formally clinched the first seed in the Final Four to face the fourth-seeded Mapua University.

Meanwhile, Colegio de San Juan de Letran copped the second spot with their victory in a Season 98 Finals rematch against La Salle Green Hills, 100-63, booking a date with the third-seeded San Sebastian in the semifinals.

George Diamante came away with a game-high 20 markers and 12 caroms in the Squires’ thrashing of the Greenies.

Jovel Baliling and Alex Gazzingan chipped in 15 and 10 points, respectively, in Letran’s 37-point blowout victory.

On the other hand, the San Beda Red Cubs closed out their season on a high note with a 75-66 upset against the Mapua Red Robins, sending them down to the fourth spot in the semis.

Despite being removed from Final Four contention, Red Cub Drei Lorenzo ensured San Beda would conclude Season 99 on a win, dropping 33 points while shooting 50-percent from beyond the arc.

In today’s consolation games, Emilio Aguinaldo College made quick work of Jose Rizal University, 63-47, while Lyceum of the Philippines University clipped Arellano University, 88-85.
