In the first day of the NCAA Season 91 Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament, the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers and the San Beda College Lady Red Spikers both amassed identical 2-0 records to share the top spot in the standings.
The Jannine Navarro and Melanie Torres duo for Saint Benilde opened their campaign with a hard-fought 11-21, 21-14, 16-10 win against the gritty Cherilyn Sindayen and Analee Paredes combo of the Lyceum of the Philippine University Lady Pirates. For their second match, Navarro and Torres made quick work of Mapua’s Alby Cubilla and Dianne Latayan with a 21-12, 21-14 win.
Meanwhile, the defending champion San Sebastian College Lady Stags finished the day with a 1-1 card. The tandem of Grethcel Soltones and Dangie Encarnacion scored a 21-18, 21-17 win against May Alvarez and Rosalie Pepito of Jose Rizal University. On the other hand, they dropped their other match via a 21-10, 20-22, 13-15 setback against Jeziela and Nieza Viray of San Beda.
Rounding out the standings are the EAC Lady Generals, LPU, UPHSD Lady Altas, who all have 1-1 records, while the Arellano University Lady Chiefs and the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights have yet to enter the winning column.
