NCAA 91 Men’s Beach Volleyball Day 1: A series of strong starts


After the opening day of the NCAA Season 91 Men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament, the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde Blazers, the University of Perpetual Help Altas, Mapua Cardinals, and the Lyceum Pirates all sported 2-0 cards to forge a four-way tie for the top spot at the standings.

Saint Benilde’s Isaiah Arda and Racmade Etrone notched a tough 14-21, 21-18, 15-9 win against Mark Enciso and Rodel Casin of San Beda to open their title defense. For their other match, they quickly stymied the Arellano University chiefs via sweep with a 21-18, 21-16 win.

On Perpetual’s side, the tandem of Rey Taneo Jr. and Esmail Kasim cruised against the likes of the San Sebastian Golden Stags and JRU Heavy Bombers with a 21-14, 21-11 and 21-13, 21-11 win respectively.

In the Pirate’s ship, the Abram Abrencillo and Joeward Presnede combo captured a 21-8, 22-20 win against JRU. They later followed up with a 14-21, 21-14, 15-8 win against Walt Amber Gervacio and Christian Calonia of San Sebastian.

Moving over to Mapua, Peejay Cuzon, and Philip Bagalay earned a commanding 21-15, 21-14 win over Letran and they also managed to come up with a 21-12, 21-19 win against San Beda.

The rest of the standings are composed of the Arellano Chiefs and EAC Generals, who have 1-1 cards, while San Beda, San Sebastian and JRU all remained winless.
