Michael “Hot and Spicy” Dasmariñas (26-2) continues his road back to a world championship shot
The one-time world title challenger made quick work of Thai journeyman Phupha Por Nobnom, stopping the Thai in the second round via knockout, Friday night at the Suntec City Convention Centre in Singapore.
Dasmariñas found his range early in the fight, constantly connecting with his jab and with few combinations that caught his opponent off-guard. Before the end of the round, he scored a knockdown courtesy of a right hook and left uppercut combination.
While Por Nobnom barely managed to get up before the eight count in the previous round, it wasn’t the case in the second. Dasmariñas turned up the heat in the second, forcing referee Jerrold Tomeldan to end the fight.
“Maganda ang pinakita ni Michael kasi walang problema sa training yan,” Dasmariñas’ manager Art Monis told Tiebreaker Times, expressing satisfaction with his ward’s performance.
According to Monis, the former youth champion has been hungry to prove his worth, working non-stop in training.
“May tiwala tayo sa kakayahan niya. Masipag at talagang tutok siya may laban o wala,” he added.
Asked what’s possibly next on their road to the title, Monis said that it is up for their promoter, Ringstar. As for them, it’s back to the gym to prepare for their upcoming fights.
“Tuloy yun in God’s will, (although) di ko pa alam kong saan,” Monis said.
