University of Santo Tomas head coach Haydee Ong will miss the Growling Tigresses’ game against Far Eastern University on Sunday after receiving a one-game suspension for accumulating three infractions in the UAAP Season 89 Collegiate Women’s Basketball Tournament.
UST, which currently holds a spotless 9-0 record, will have assistant coach Sen Dysangco take over coaching duties in Ong’s absence.
Ong will serve her suspension on November 8, when the Growling Tigresses face the Lady Tamaraws at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Her third infraction came during UST’s game against De La Salle University, when the Growling Tigresses’ bench was assessed a technical foul for unsportsmanlike behavior with 3:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Members of the coaching staff and players openly protested an official’s call, despite the team having already received an official warning in the second quarter for challenging officiating decisions.
Ong’s first two infractions were recorded on October 17 during UST’s game against Ateneo de Manila University.
Under the UAAP House Rules, a one-game suspension is imposed once a coach or team accumulates three infractions, an adjustment from last season’s threshold of two.
