After two years, the sun finally rises in the East once again.
University of the East snapped its two-year, 30-game winless streak with a stunning 53-47 upset of Adamson University in the UAAP Season 89 Collegiate Men’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
The victory marked the Red Warriors’ first win since October 26, 2024, when they defeated the National University Bulldogs, 74-58, in the second round of Season 87. The breakthrough win improved UE’s record to 1-10, although it remains out of contention for a postseason berth.
Meanwhile, the Falcons continued to struggle in the second round, absorbing their fourth consecutive defeat to slip to 4-7 and seventh place in the standings.
Both teams will return to action on Wednesday at the Big Dome, but with different objectives.
UE will look to build on its breakthrough victory and make it two wins in a row when it faces the University of Santo Tomas at 2:30 p.m.
Adamson, meanwhile, will attempt to revive its dwindling Final Four hopes when it takes on Ateneo de Manila University at 5 p.m.
