Meralco will lean on familiarity anew for the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup by bringing back Jordon Varnado.
Continuing its practice of fielding in imports they’ve signed for regional tilts in past years, the Bolts are set to compete in the upcoming tilt with one of their key cogs in the Basketball Champions League Asia 2025.
In three games, Varnado averaged 19.7 points and 10.0 rebounds as he helped the team reach the quarterfinals, where they ultimately bowed to eventual bronze medalists XAC Broncos of Mongolia, 83-78.
A year after that Dubai tournament, the American winger is set to make his comeback with the MVP Group-owned franchise, as announced by no less than the team through its official social media channels Monday.
The 29-year-old native of Tennessee should shore up the frontline of a squad that’s aiming to get to the Big Dance after two consecutive semifinal appearances this season, in which they bowed to TNT on both instances.
A veteran internationalist himself, Varmado most recently played for Israel’s Bnei Penlink Herzliya.
Varnado is just the latest signing for the season-ending conference as the import ensemble is getting complete.
Just recently, Blackwater confirmed that it is bringing in 2024 Indonesian Basketball League MVP Kentrell Barkley, who’s arriving next week. Phoenix, on the other hand, is going with former NBA pro BJ Johnson.
