UAAP Season 77 and 78 Men’s Basketball regular season Most Valuable Player Kiefer Ravena of the Ateneo Blue Eagles and NCAA Season 91 regular season Most Valuable Player Allwell Oraeme of the Mapua Cardinals lead the winners of the Collegiate Mythical Five when the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps and Smart Sports present the Collegiate Basketball Awards on January 26 at Saisaki-Kamayan in EDSA-Greenhills.
Ravena, averaged 17.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.1 steals in his final year, and Oraeme, averaged 16.33 points, 20.28 rebounds, and 2.94 blocks, are joined by Far Eastern University’s Mac Belo, University of Santo Tomas’ Kevin Ferrer and University of Perpetual Help’s Scottie Thompson in the 2015 batch for their outstanding performances during the collegiate season.
Ravena captured his second straight UAAP MVP award in his final season with Ateneo while Oraeme powered Mapua to its first NCAA Final Four appearance since 2010 largely in part to a series of double-double performances by the foreign student-athlete.
UAAP Season 78 Men’s Basketball Finals Most Valuable Player Belo, who averaged 16.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks during the UAAP Season 78 Men’s Basketball playoffs, ended his collegiate career on a memorable note as he helped FEU capture its first title since 2005 while winning the Finals MVP honors.
Although he was on the losing end of that title series with FEU, Ferrer, 17.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.3 3FGM in his final year, had a sensational season for UST and was second to Ravena in the UAAP MVP derby.
Triple-double machine Thompson, now playing for crowd darlings Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA, earned the nod of the group of scribes covering the collegiate basketball beat despite Perpetual’s absence in the NCAA Final Four behind a strong campaign that almost equaled his MVP year in 2014. Thompson averaged close to a triple-double in his senior year in scoring 14.22 points, 11.11 rebounds, and 8.72 assists.
Ravena, Belo, Thompson, and Ferrer are all Smart Elite ambassadors for their respective schools. The five players are also qualified for the Smart Player of the Year which will be announced on the night of the awards.
Leading the list of awardees are FEU’s Nash Racela and Aldin Ayo, the former Letran now with La Salle, who will both receive the top coaching honors after steering their teams to the championship.
FEU’s Roger Pogoy and Letran’s Kevin Racal will share the Pivotal Player award while San Beda’s Baser Amer, Letran’s Mark Cruz and FEU’s Mike Tolomia will receive the Super Senior honors.
