Bacoor survived Rizal in a wild finish, picking up an 87-84 decision late Tuesday night in the 2019-20 MPBL Lakan Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Still licking the wounds of their painful setback against the Pasay Voyagers, the Strikers immediately recovered from that stigma and added the Golden Coolers to their list of casualties.
But more than picking up its seventh win in nine games, Bacoor became a part of history when it made happen the first-ever father and son tandem in the MPBL.
Marlou Aquino joined his son, Matthew, in the 3:13 mark of the final quarter and together they finished the job for the Strikers.
For the younger Aquino, it was a dream come true.
“Almost all of the things I learned in basketball came from him,” said Matthew. “We’ve been planning to do this even after I played my last game in the UAAP.”
Matthew had 11 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.
Gab Banal led the way with 16 points while Mark Pangilinan and Michael Canete added 14 points each.
Rizal, who fell to 1-7, was led by Kelvin Gregorio’s 18 points.
The moment overshadowed the victories posted by Bataan and Binan earlier.
With Alvin Pasaol leading the way, the Risers of Bataan became more solid up front as they outlasted the Imus Bandera, 65-61.
The star forward from University of the East finished with 20 points and six rebounds and made his presence felt quickly in shoring up the Risers’ frontline.
Bataan evened their slate to 4-4 while dropping Imus to 2-5.
Jayjay Helterbrand tallied 10 points, six assists, and three rebounds for the Bandera.
Binan ripped Marikina, 82-72, in the other game.
Jonathan Rivera carried the Heroes to a 4-6 record with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Allan Mangahas added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The struggling Shoemasters, who dropped to 0-8, was led by Yves Sazon’s 15-point, four-rebound, and four-assist line.
