Marck Espejo vows full commitment to national team ahead of FIVB Worlds


Criss Cross star Marck Espejo reaffirmed his commitment to the Philippine men’s national volleyball team’s cause as the country gears up to host the FIVB World Championship next year.

Espejo expressed this following the King Crunchers’ heartbreaking five-set loss to defending champion Cignal – his first game back after playing for the Incheon Korean Air Jumbos in the Korea V-League – last Sunday at the Philsports Arena.

“Syempre, hindi naman ako nageexpect agad na makukuha ako or hindi. Basta kapag ipatawag ako, gagawin ko yung best ko. Bahala na kung anong mangyari,” said Espejo, who is expected to be a shoo-in along with Bryan Bagunas.

If selected to be part of the historic team, the 6-foot-3 outside spiker vowed to give the national team his all to try and make an impression in the world meet.

“Sobrang grateful talaga, sobrang blessed na mabigyan kami ng chance na makapaglaro sa isa sa mga pinakamataas na leagues sa men’s volleyball sa world,” said Espejo.

“Siguro ‘di naman kami nag-eexpect na kailangan naming manalo, siguro kailangan lang namin gawin is magandang laban bawat countries,” he added.

Espejo, however, only has one wish this time around. And that is for the powers that be to decide what’s best for the national team moving forward.

“I hope sa time na ‘to maging maganda yung mga desisyon ng hahawak ng team,” said the 30th Southeast Asian Games silver medalist.

“Siguro after nung Spikers’ Turf, may tatlong coaches na tumitingin sa team, I hope alam na nila kung sino yung mga kailangan kunin para mabuo agad yung team kasi hindi biro ‘tong ligang ‘to, kailangan as of now ready ka na, prepared ka na.”
