Lyceum hands Letran first loss; San Sebastian overwhelms UP

Lyceum and San Sebastian picked up impressive wins on Friday afternoon in the continuation of the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.

Coming off a scintillating win over Adamson last May 10, the Pirates once again relied on their pesky defense to deal the Letran Knights their first loss in Group B, 101-96.

Raymar Caduyac led the fourth quarter rally of Lyceum, scoring 10 of his 18 points in the payoff period.

“We beat ourselves in the first half. Akala namin it’s gonna be easy, pero nabulaga kami with a very good first half from Letran,” said Lyceum head coach Topex Robinson, as his squad had to claw back from 13 points down.

Lyceum stayed on top of their group with a clean 3-0 slate, while dropping Letran to 3-1.

The Pirates wasted a career outing by Allen Mina, who had 30 points spiked by six triples.

Equally impressive were RK Ilagan and Allyn Bulanadi, as the San Sebastian duo towed the Golden Stags to a 74-64 conquest of the UP Fighting Maroons.

Ilagan had 18 points, while Bulanadi added 16 markers.

This is San Sebastian’s debut in this tournament. Meanwhile, UP saw their two-game winning streak snapped to fall to an even 2-2 in Group A.

Javi Gomez de Liano and Kobe Paras missed the contest.

Ricci Rivero led the way for UP with 19 markers. Juan Gomez de Liano was limited to just eight points on 3-of-11 shooting.

Sister squads De La Salle Green Archers and College of Saint Benilde Blazers also picked up wins in the quadruple-header.

Serrano had 18 points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Justine Baltazar tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds.

CEU, who lost their first outing in three games, were paced by Jam Formento’s 22 markers.

The Blazers, on the other hand, marched on to the win column in Group B after trouncing the JRU Heavy Bombers, 79-56.

Yankie Haruna had an efficient game with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

MJ Dela Virgen and Marwin Dionisio each had 11 points for the 0-2 Heavy Bombers.
