Letran’s Shawn Umali crosses the street, commits to Lyceum

Despite going on a little rejigged with its coaching staff, Lyceum of the Philippines University did not stop in bolstering its lineup.

Letran High standout Shawn Umali decided to cross the streets of Muralla, to commit to Lyceum.

“Sa LPU ako pumunta kasi nabigyan ako ng chance and nakikita ko na maggro-grow ako as a player and as a person,” shared the 6-foot-3 bruiser.

In NCAA Season 95, he and Joshua Ramirez teamed up. But it was not enough as the Squires finished with an 8-10 slate for seventh place.

The 19-year-old still impressed with averages of 11.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.

According to Umali, a lot of NCAA schools expressed interest in getting him but it was Lyceum who gave him the vision which he shares.

“Madadala ko sa LPU siguro is yung skills ko at puso sa paglalaro. Papatunayan ko na hindi masasayang yung oportunidad na binigay sakin ng LPU,” he said.

In Lyceum, he joins batchmates Maclaude Guadana and John Barba of Lyceum and John Bravo of First City Providencial College.
