La Consolacion College Manila rebounded from its first loss in the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA) Season 16 Seniors Basketball Tournament, outlasting Philippine Women’s University, 73-68, on Wednesday at their home court.
The Blue Royals were eager to recover after a tough 71-58 loss to the SDCA Pikemen on November 9.
That defeat dropped them into a three-way tie for second place alongside the PWU Patriots and the ICCT Blue Dragons, who also secured a win on the same game day, beating the PATTS Seahorses, 78-67.
“Yung talo sa SDCA, wala eh ganon talaga. Di naman palaging panalo, pero mahalaga next page na tayo,” said Blue Royals head coach Raymond Valenzona.
“Ngayong nakaramdam na silang matalo, mas gutom na ngayon, mas ganado. Tyaka dapat lagi kaming prepared, wag makampante kasi nasa sa’min ung mata ng kalaban. Pinaghahandaan kami palagi bilang defending champion. So kami, mas todo ung depensa kasi yun talaga nagkulang nung last game.”
Christian Alonzo led the way for LCCM — which is backed by Demigod, Pureblends, Uratex, A-Game, and Infinite Basketball, contributing 15 points and three steals. Kenneth Castillo and Jay Antonio added 12 points apiece to support the Royals’ balanced attack.
For the Patriots, Karl Mangupag paced his team with 18 points, while Jacob Danganan added 15 in a hard-fought loss.
Meanwhile, the ICCT Blue Dragons relied on a strong showing from Melvin Katipunan and Daniel De Guzman, who both scored 16 points in their win over PATTS.
Despite Seahorse Mark Morada’s 19-point performance, his efforts fell short as PATTS succumbed to a 78-67 defeat.
In other Seniors games, World Citi College notched its second win, edging out the University of Asia and the Pacific, 66-62, and extending UA&P’s losing streak to four games.
Nelson De Guzman starred for World Citi with 21 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while Louie Lime tallied an impressive 17-point, 17-rebound double-double.
Elsewhere, Treston International College leveled its record to 2-2 after a gritty 67-60 victory over Manila Tytana Colleges.
Rasheen Jose spearheaded the win with 19 points, leaving Tytana with the same 2-2 record.
In the Juniors division, Marcus Saad powered LCCM to a dominant 65-46 win, improving their record to 2-0. Saad dropped 17 points, solidifying the Blue Royals’ strong start in the standings.
