If Mylene Paat is selected in the 2024 KOVO Women’s Asian Quota Draft for the next season of the Korean V-League, Chery Tiggo would feel prouder than ever to allow her to compete overseas.
The 5-foot-11 left-handed opposite spiker will try her luck once again in South Korea during the tryouts scheduled from April 29 to May 1 after going undrafted last year.
Paat, alongside Creamline’s Tots Carlos and Petro Gazz’s middle blocker MJ Phillips, is part of the 36-woman pool released by the Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) a few days ago.
“Qualified naman sila. It’s an additional feather in their cap. It’s national pride,” said Crossovers head coach Kungfu Reyes regarding the possibility of Paat leaving for a season.
“So far, wala pa naman kaming napaguusapan… Wala pang sinasabi sa amin si Mylene, pero masaya kami kung ano man ang magiging desisyon niya,” he added.
This would not be the first time Paat would play internationally if she gets drafted, having played in Thailand where she shined brightly.
The 30-year-old native of Bani, Pangasinan, played for Nakhon Ratchasima in the Volleyball Thailand League in 2022.
There, she was named the tournament’s Best Scorer while also leading the team to a third-place finish.
The three-day tryout will be held at the Jeju Halla Gymnasium and Sun Hotel.
That would make Paat, Carlos, and Phillips miss the first game day of semifinals action scheduled on April 30, Tuesday, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference if their teams make it.
As of publishing time, Paat’s Chery Tiggo is in fifth, Carlos’ Creamline is in third, and Phillips’ Petro Gazz is in second.
Only the top four teams will advance to the semifinals.
