A lot has changed since 2013
In the PBA, there had been two expansion teams added to the league since then while eight champions have been crowned. But for Kia import Markeith Cummings, who played for the Globalport Batang Pier in 2013, the way the game has been called by the officials have changed as well.
“They don’t allow you to touch,” the 28-year-old quipped after Kia lost its Governors’ Cup opener 105-118 to Phoenix, Wednesday night.
“When I was here in 2013, there was a lot of pushing and a lot of stuff going on,” furthered Cummings, who averaged 28.7 points and 9.8 rebounds in 2013.
“Now, they’re taking the fun out of the game.”
Cummings finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds in 44 minutes in the Picanto’s opening day loss. Though scoring 14 points in the final frame, Kia struggled to get stops in the last 12 minutes of the contest.
Still, the native of Savannah, Georgia saw a lot of positives with the way they fought in the end.
“We fight ‘til the end. We just made a couple of mistakes on defense, our rotations, but that stuff comes with practice,” he shared. “Now we kind of got a feel of how everyone plays, so it’s going to give us extra boost coming into the next game on Saturday.”
With regards to the calls, Cummings plans to also adjust to it by Saturday.
“We just have to adjust, and we’re going to.”
