As Jason Brickman approaches the twilight of his basketball career, he’s finally setting his sights on playing at home.
The decorated 6-foot floor general – renowned as the fourth men’s player in NCAA Division I history to amass 1,000 career assists – has announced his intention to join the 2025 PBA Rookie Draft later this year.
“I’d like to enter the PBA, so I’m looking forward to the next draft, hope I can enter, and join the PBA,” Brickman shared.
The 33-year-old expressed his gratitude that the PBA removed its age limit on draft applicants a few years ago, allowing him the opportunity to pursue his dream.
Brickman initially planned to enter the draft in 2021, but a new opportunity emerged when he signed with Taiwan’s T1 club, the Kaohsiung Aquas.
Over his four-year stint with the team, he achieved significant milestones – including winning a championship, earning Best Import honors in 2022, and being named to the First Team twice.
However, his journey in Taiwan came to an end when the Aquas released him last December.
“I was not able to get out of my contract with a few more years left. Now that I’m out of my Taiwan contract, I’ll be able to join the PBA,” he explained.
Before turning his full attention to draft preparations, Brickman is focused on helping his good friend Charles Tiu chase a championship.
Tiu, who previously coached Brickman at Mighty Sports, has entrusted him with the lead guard duties for Strong Group at the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship.
“It’s been a few years, but it’s always exciting to come back and see the fans, my family. I’m just excited to play and represent the country,” said Brickman, who was also the 2016 ABL MVP.
