India dominated Iran in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-11, to secure a fifth-place finish in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Middle blocker Soorya Soorya proved to be a force at the net once again, scoring 15 points in the 65-minute contest to help the Indians, who finished fourth in the previous tournament, claim the fifth spot.
Anagha Radhakrishnan scored 13 points in the victory, while Kambrath Poyilil Anusree added 10 points.
On the other hand, Iran dropped to sixth place.
Hedieh Taleifarkhondeh led the Iranians with eight points, all from attacks, while Aytak Salamatgharamaleki and Mobina Sadat Ghafarian Anbarani were held to six and five points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Indonesia made quick work of Hong Kong, winning 25-15, 25-19, 25-20, to claim seventh place.
The Indonesians, who placed second in the last edition, relied on Junaida Santi once again as she scored 21 points on 19 attacks, one ace, and one block to help her side close out the game in just 82 minutes.
Team captain Bela Sabrina Agustina supported Santi with 12 points, 11 of which came from attacks, while Putri Nur Hidayanti Agustin chipped in eight points in the triumph.
“This is our first time in an international competition, so we are very, very happy, especially for this day. We won this match today. This is our second win, so we are very, very happy,” said Agustina after the win.
On the other hand, Wing Lang Chim led Hong Kong, which finished eighth, with 12 points—eight of them coming in the second set—while Wing Lam Pang added 10 points in the loss.
