Gilas Women fall short in 3×3 WS Ulaanbaatar, finish 9th

Gilas Pilipinas Women settled for ninth place at the 2025 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Ulaanbaatar Stop, held last Wednesday.

The Filipinas suffered back-to-back close losses—first to host Mongolia, 21-16 (9:33), followed by a heartbreaking 18-17 defeat to Austria.

Despite the setbacks, the Philippines held on to 14th place in the overall tour standings with 98 points.

In a tightly contested match against the Mongolian Amazons, Khulan Onolbaatar and Ariuntsetseg Bat-Erdene fueled a late run that turned a slim 14-13 edge into a commanding 19-16 cushion.

Bat-Erdene then sealed the game with the finishing blow—scoring the 21st point with 27 seconds remaining.

Gilas’ do-or-die matchup against Austria proved just as intense.

A clutch basket and a free throw from Anja Fuchs-Robetin with 47 seconds left ultimately shut the door on the Filipinas’ hopes of advancing.

Alexis Pana led the charge against Ulaanbaatar with seven points and three rebounds, while Tantoy Ferrer and Mikka Cacho chipped in four and three, respectively.

Against Austria, it was Cacho and Kaye Pingol who led the scoring with six points each.

Gilas Pilipinas Women will look to bounce back in their next stop in Bucharest, scheduled for July 11 to 13.
