Gilas to enter Calambubble anew

Gilas Pilipinas will resume their camp inside Inspire Sports Academy on Monday.

Twenty players are expected to enter the bubble.

Holdovers from previous windows of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers are Dave Ildefonso, Dwight Ramos, Isaac Go, Javi Gomez de Liano, Justine Baltazar, Kemark Carino, the Nieto twins, Rey Suerte, William Navarro, and Jaydee Tungcab.

Out of the dozens of newcomers from Gilas’ last camp last March that was broken up last March 29 due to the implementation of enhanced community quarantine in NCR-plus, only Carl Tamayo, Jason Credo, Jordan Heading, Lebron Lopez, RJ Abarrientos, Geo Chiu, SJ Belangel, and Tzaddy Rangel were asked to return.

Completing the list is soon-to-be-Filipino Angelo Kouame.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is also coordinating with East West Private with regards to the return of Kai Sotto.

Surprisingly not in the list is Juan Gomez de Liano, who averaged 12.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists during the first two windows of the Qualifiers.

Gilas Pilipinas program director Tab Baldwin and Jong Uichico will supervise the camp, along with team manager Gabby Cui. Also part of the staff are coaches Sandy Arespacochaga, Boyet Fernandez, Caloy Garcia, Alton Lister, Sandro Soriano, and Dex Aseron.

The pool will spend three weeks in Inspire Sports Academy before taking a quick break. The team would return for another camp days before the Qualifiers and immediately head to Clark afterward.

The Philippines is preparing for two meets — the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers which takes place from June 16-20 in Clark and FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia from June 29-July 4.
