Philippines’ basketball teams continue their rise in the decade, and it has reflected in FIBA’s latest rankings.
Gilas Pilipinas, which placed second in the recent FIBA Asia Championship, rose to no. 28 from no. 31 last year after the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
Gilas eclipsed Jordan (29) and Korea (30) and is now the third-best Asian country in the rankings behind China (14) and Iran (17).
Perlas Pilipinas meanwhile, which reached Level I of the FIBA Asia Championship for Women after a sterling run, rose nine spots to no. 49 from a previous no. 58.
The women’s side are now above Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and Indonesia and have narrowed down the distance against Southeast Asian rivals Malaysia (43) and Thailand (45).
