Four Filipino imports missed their respective games on Sunday.
Both Juan Gomez de Liaño of Tokyo Z and Kemark Cariño of Aomori were not in the lineup for the weekend. Meanwhile, Javi Gomez de Liano of Ibaraki and Caelan Tiongson of Taoyuan were benched.
For Juan, he had to sit out Earthfriends’ series against Kumamoto for something beyond his control.
Early last week, Tokyo Z reported that one of its players had tested positive for COVID-19. That unidentified player had contact with three of his teammates – including Juan – forcing them to enter protocols.
Only fielding nine players, Earthfriends suffered a 78-109 and a 52-118 losses to the Volters, dropping them to 3-18 in the standings.
Carino, on the other hand, suffered an ankle sprain during practice, making him miss the Wat’s games against Fukushima.
The Firebonds won both games at Koriyama General Gymnasium, 78-61 and 84-69, as Aomori fell to a 2-19 record.
Carino is optimistic that he will recover by the time they face FE Nagoya next weekend.
Javi, meanwhile, was a DNP-coaches decision during Ibaraki’s stunning 88-85 win over Shimane at Adastria Mito Arena.
Ibaraki is now 3-15 in the standings after arresting their six-game slide.
Over in Taiwan, Tiongson opted to sit out Taoyuan’s game against Taiwan Beer at Tianmu Stadium.
According to the team, the 6-foot-5 Filipino-American a chance to recover after playing 41 minutes against New Taipei last Saturday. Tiongson was coming off mandatory quarantine as well.
The Leopards lost the game 93-102.
The team assured Tiongson will be back when they face Tainan this weekend.
