Former UST mentor Jarencio posts cryptic tweet

Is Puso, Pride, and Palaban making a return to UST?

The clamor to bring back Pido Jarencio as the chief mentor of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers is getting stronger and stronger by the day. And Jarencio himself made it known that he hears the calls of the UST faithful.

Tuesday afternoon, the 52-year-old mentor tweeted a cryptic message, calling for UST to “bring back the glory.”

Jarencio had given UST their only championship this millennium back in 2006 after a three-game classic against the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles. During his eight-year tenure, he compiled 74-62 win-loss record, 56-54 in the regular season.

This season, the Growling Tigers, steered by first-year head coach Boy Sablan, finished with a disappointing 3-11 record — last in the league. This is UST’s worst finish in the Final Four era.

The beloved UST icon is currently a consultant with PBA club team Globalport Batang Pier, while Sablan is still with the Growling Tigers.
