FIBA 3×3: Gilas Women dealt heartbreak by Thailand, bow out of Asia Cup

Fresh off its Southeast Asian Games winning campaign, Thailand continued its mastery over the Philippines, dealing Gilas Women a heartbreaking 13-11 loss to close out Qualifying Draw B of the 2022 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup, Thursday in Singapore.

The loss eliminated Gilas Women from the competition, going 1-1 in the QD. Thailand, meanwhile, moved up to the main draw.

It was a tough loss for Gilas Women who held the lead for most of the game.

With Gilas up 11-10, Rujiwan Bunsinprom scored on an and-one to put the Thais ahead with 22.8 seconds left.

A Khate Castillo miss from deep eventually led to a dagger bucket by Thunchanok Lumdabpang.

In the dying seconds, Camille Clarin pulled up from deep but her shot could only hit rim as Thailand averted an upset.

Thailand also defeated the Philippines, 21-14, in the semifinals of the SEA Games.

Bunsinprom led Thailand with five points while Lumdabpang added four.

Behind the duo of Afril Bernardino and Khate Castillo, Gilas went up 8-5 midway through the game.

The Thais though slowly chipped into the lead, eventually knotting things up at 8-all.

The two squads then exchanged buckets with Bernardino scoring on a tough bucket over Lumdabpang to give Gilas their last taste of the lead, 11-10, with 40 seconds left.

Bernardino wound up with a game-high six points while Castillo added four.

Also eliminated was Jordan, who went winless in the competition.

The Scores:

Philippines 11 – Bernardino 6, Castillo 4, Guytingco 1, Clarin 0.

Thailand 13 – Bunsinprom 5, Lumdabpang 4, Thuamon 2, Prajuapsook 2.
