Ferre Reggers continues to make his mark on the world stage.
The 22-year-old opposite spiker once again spearheaded Belgium’s charge, as the Red Dragons closed their Pool F campaign at the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship with a commanding sweep of Algeria, 25-22, 25-20, 25-12, on Thursday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Reggers, who has emerged as Belgium’s breakout star in Manila, stressed that the victory was more than just another win on paper — it was a statement of intent from the world’s No. 15 squad.
“It is a big statement, I think,” Reggers said. “Like we said after the game against Ukraine, we are here to stay, and I think we showed it. We are really happy with the result, and we will keep on fighting to continue in this tournament.”
Even with a shaky start and 19 unforced errors, Belgium’s energy and depth proved far too much for the 89th-ranked Algerians, who never found a consistent rhythm.
The Red Dragons dominated in all major scoring categories — attacks (44-33), blocks (10-1), and service aces (5-1) — to finish the preliminaries with a spotless 3-0 record.
Team captain Sam Deroo set the tone with 15 points, all coming from sharp kills, while Reggers provided the spark that kept Belgium in full control throughout.
“We have some kind of momentum, and I think it is really good,” added Reggers. “It was really important to play this game fully and start with the main squad. Some people suspected we would make changes, but we didn’t because we want to keep the rhythm and maintain our confidence with the same team. I think we did great today.
“It was not easy at the start because there was some pressure, but like you saw, we are a team that brings energy and has nothing to lose. We came in aggressively.”
Algeria, which exited the tournament without a win, was led by Tizit Farouk’s 11-point outing built on 10 kills and a block.
With Pool F in the books, Belgium now turns its focus to the Round of 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. There, it will face a tough crossover test against a Pool C opponent — a field that features Finland, France, and Argentina.
