EAC subdues JRU for second win; San Beda dominates San Sebastian


The defending champions Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals took their second consecutive victory after defeating Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers in straight sets, while San Beda College Red Spikers barged into the win column with a similar outing against San Sebastian College Recolletos Golden Stags, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan City.

EAC upended JRU in three sets, 25-17, 25-21, 25-17. Reigning Most Valuable Player Howard Mojica led the dominance of the Generals on attacks, scoring 16 of the 41 kills they fired against the Bombers’ 25. All of these spikes came from an excellent set, as EAC setter Nicco Bihag produced 41 tosses. Mojica’s fellow wing attackers Israel Encina and Kerth Melliza registered 10 and 8 markers, respectively, to help EAC pull off another victory. No Bombers scored in double digits; Roden Pulongbarit topped with just 9 points.

In the day’s curtain raiser, San Beda took their initial win of the season in three sets against San Sebastian, 25-17, 25-23, 25-22. It was a field day for the Red Spikers as they out-muscled the Golden Stags in terms of attacks, 43 to 23. Three of the Lions scored in double figures, with Gerald Zabala accounting for 14. Mark Enciso and Kenneth Gonzales had 11 and 10 markers. On the other hand, Richard Tolentino was the most productive Stag with 13 markers.
