“Suspended” University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers head coach Bong Dela Cruz has been the subject of various allegations from various sources over the past week.
A blog raised speculation that game-fixing was involved in the school’s decision to suspend the second-year head coach, while a reputable media outlet’s source alleged that Dela Cruz had enforced violence, both verbal and physical, on UST’s student-athletes. All were just allegations.
Dela Cruz broke his silence early Monday evening. In a statement, Dela Cruz opened by saying that he had opted not to speak to anyone or any outlet about this, believing that the news would die down eventually. However, according to him, the allegations against him had kept piling and piling as the days went by.
He then added that the issues are not only affecting his credibility as a head coach, but also his family.
He then closed by saying that he hopes the University of Santo Tomas, his high school alma mater, will not be dragged down by the issues being raised against him. Moreover, he hopes that the people respect his decision to keep silent.
