Dawn Catindig proud of Alas Women’s young core

Alas Pilipinas veteran libero Dawn Catindig said she couldn’t feel prouder as the team’s young guns once again took center stage in their back-to-back bronze medal finishes in the 2025 SEA V.League.

She said it was an important moment for the younger players, giving them valuable experience and confidence that will be crucial as they take on bigger roles, especially as the team continues its buildup for the Southeast Asian Games this December.

At the forefront of the team’s podium finishes in the SEA V.League were Angel Canino, who bagged the Best Outside Hitter award in the first leg, and libero Justine Jazareno, who was named Best Libero in the second leg.

“Siguro sa mga bata, this is a very important time for them,” said Catindig, during the promotional campaign for the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Volleyball Championship at the LRT-2 Recto station on Tuesday.

“Yung to gain experience and ma-expose pa sila kasi ganitong level yung kailangan nila laruin para mababaon nila yung experience na ito coming into the next competition pa,” added the former Premier Volleyball League Best Libero.

Other young players who made their mark in the tournament included mainstays Alyssa Solomon and Bella Belen, as well as Shaina Nitura and Cla Loresco.

Catindig said she feels pleased with how the team’s progress has become more consistent in recent tournaments, adding that they remain determined to keep working toward improving their results and climbing higher on the podium.

“Yung proud kami sa team dahil yung progress talaga ng team ay nagiging mas consistent na. ‘Yon pa talaga yung pagtatrabahuhan namin — na mas umangat pa yung podium finish namin,” said the Cignal star.

She added that the experience gained by the younger players will be invaluable when they return to their universities or club teams, and even more so in future international tournaments.

“Syempre, [kung] paano nila i-she-share ‘yon pagbalik nila sa universities or club teams nila, at doon sa future na magjo-join ng national team.”
