Ish Polvorosa has found himself in a quandary during the first two games of Criss Cross in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference.
No, it’s not something negative. Instead, he’s facing the best problem of his life with the collection of talent the King Crunchers possess from top to bottom.
“Actually, yun ang very good problem of the team eh everyone’s a gunner,” said Polvorosa after their straight sets win over VNS-Nasty on Friday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
“I’m very lucky to have them as my teammates again and some of them for the first time. Ito na yung opportunity ko personally para maipakita sa kanila na kaya nilang akong tulungan at kaya ko rin silang matulungan,” added the former national team setter, who celebrated his 26th birthday with a win.
In the first two games of the King Crunchers, almost everyone in the lineup saw floor time and delivered, with Jude Garcia leading the way on both occasions.
Kim Malabunga also showcased his defensive tenacity, while indoor returnee Jaron Requinton displayed flashes of his old self from his days representing University of Santo Tomas High School.
Ysay Marasigan and Rex Intal impressed in starter roles, while Pemie Bagalay, Krung Arbasto, Chu Njigha, and Gian Glorioso also had their moments off the bench.
Although they dominated Maverick and VNS, Polvorosa admitted that their team is still a work in progress as they adjust to the system of famed head coach Tai Bundit.
“Siguro kailangan pa naming i-improve yung consistency kasi mas binabalik po namin slowly but surely yung consistency sa mga connections, hindi lang sa setting to spiking, kundi pati sa lahat ng skills sa loob ng court,” said Polvorosa.
