Staying true to its commitment to helping the local halfcourt game grow further, Chooks-to-Go is also looking to partake in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series.
National Basketball League (NBL) Executive Vice President Rhose Montreal said Saturday that the staunch sports supporter is considering the Women’s NBL 3×3 tournament as the qualifier for the aforementioned tilt.
Montreal mentioned Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. (BAVI) Sports and Marketing head Mel Macasaquit has been the one working for that to happen.
“I don’t know if I am in the position to say this, but because of the hard work of Mel Macasaquit, our big boss… He’s really working on the 3×3 WNBL tournament as a qualifier for the Women Series,” she said in a virtual presser.
Chooks has been advocating for women’s 3×3 ever since. Proof of that was in 2019, when its MelMac Cup — made in an effort to help increase the country’s FIBA 3×3 ranking points further — had a distaff side.
Four WNBL teams and two other ball clubs took part in the festivities that saw SM Hypermarket take down Ever Bilena, 21-18, for the crown.
Now, it aims to take it up a notch higher by trying to send a Philippine representative to the Women’s Series, which was established in 2019 and is the first-ever FIBA 3×3 competition dedicated to women.
“We would like to thank again Chooks-to-Go for backing the WNBL 3×3,” a grateful Montreal expressed.
Aside from 3×3, Montreal took pride in the successful staging of the innovative WNBL-Isolation Basketball Championship 1v1 games last May 22 in San Fernando, Pampanga that saw Allana Lim defeat Snow Peñaranda, 20-17.
“Gusto namin pasalamatan yung 1v1 launch ng WNBL and IBC last May 22. it was a big success because of the support of Chooks-to-Go,” she said.
