Chery Tiggo cruises to PVL quarters with straight-set victory over ZUS Coffee


Chery Tiggo secured its spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference with a decisive 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 victory over ZUS Coffee at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

The Crossovers bounced back from their previous loss to the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, improving their record to 5-2 and claiming solo fourth place.

“Marami pang dapat iadjust though nanalo kami pero ireready pa rin namin yung team for quarterfinals,” said Chery Tiggo head coach Kungfu Reyes, who is still seeking a better performance from his team.

The Crossovers maintained a consistent theme throughout the match, closing out each set strongly by pulling away from tight scores midway through.

American import Khat Bell was outstanding, finishing with 28 points, including 24 attacks and four blocks, along with seven excellent receptions for Chery Tiggo.

Mylene Paat stepped up for Ara Galang, who was sidelined due to a minor injury, delivering 11 points with an 8-of-16 spiking efficiency, along with two blocks and one ace.

“I’m so proud of my teammates. I admire their attitude and motivation to get back to the gym this week and really work hard. They really put some effort in this week and I’m super proud of them,” said Bell, who also serves as the team captain.

Chery Tiggo will conclude the preliminary round on Thursday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, facing Petro Gazz.

Meanwhile, ZUS Coffee, now at 0-7, will aim to close out its campaign on a winning note against Creamline on Thursday.
