Local football returns today, as the 2016 United Football League commences at the Rizal Memorial Stadium with the UFL Cup.
The 2016 UFL Cup opens with three group stage fixtures from Group B. Forza will take on Agila in the 4:00PM game, with Pasargad vs Global FC to follow at 6:15PM. JP Voltes and Laos FC will be the final game at 8:30PM.
Omid Nazari is expected to debut for Global FC, for whom Mark Hartmann is unavailable due to injury.
However, the more exciting fixtures shall be played tomorrow, February 7. Group A fixtures commence as Green Archers United FC start their campaign against a revitalized Nomads FC at 4:00PM. After which are current UFL Cup winners Kaya FC against perennial contenders Stallion FC. Kaya FC vs Stallion FC will be a rematch of their semi-finals clash from the 2015 UFL Cup, which the former had won. No doubt Stallion FC will be itching to get one over Kaya FC this early in the tournament.
And then the big one. Reigning UFL champions and 2015 UFL Cup finalists Ceres-La Salle FC shall face the Loyola Meralco Sparks FC in the final game of the weekend. Ceres-La Salle’s newest star, Stephan Schrock, is expected to make his maiden UFL appearance. Schrock, together with the likes of Kevin Ingreso and Juani Guirado, will take on the Younghusband brothers in the undisputed match of the week. The game kicks off at 8:30PM.
