Barangay Ginebra and Blackwater notched hard-earned wins in the PBA Dickies women’s 3-on-3 tournament Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena, and clinched the top berths in their respective groups.
Free throws by Mix Bautista and Angeli Gloriani gave Ginebra a 14-12 overtime win over NLEX in Group B action. Under the rules, the first team to score two points in extension wins the match.
Ginebra survived an explosion from Anna Buendia, who scored NLEX’s last seven points to force overtime.
Ginebra were still ahead by 3, 8-5, before back-to-back long range baskets by Buendia gave NLEX the lead, 9-8. Buendia scored two more baskets to make it 11-9 before MJ Galicia tied the score with a clutch two.
Buendia again carried NLEX ahead with a lay-up, 12-11, although Bautista replied to send the game to overtime.
In the first game, Blackwater edged Alaska, 11-10, to top Group A. Down 2-5 in the early stages, Camille Sambile and Allana Lim combined for the next five points to knot the count at 7 apiece.
Banjo Soriano and France Cabinbin then exchanged buckets before a Sambile free throw pushed Blackwater ahead, 10-9. Soriano tied the game again, but Cabinbin’s drive proved to be the go-ahead shot even as April Siat missed twice as time expired.
In the semi-finals, Blackwater will meet NLEX, while Alaska and Ginebra square off.
