Davao Occidental turned to Billy Robles, who sank the game-winning lay up just in the nick of time, towing the Tigers to a scary 69-67 victory over host team Pasay Voyagers, Monday evening at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Robles’ game winner catapulted the Cocolife-backed Tigers to their third win in four games.
Robles had 12 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks while Mark Yee had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Axel Inigo paced Pasay, who fell to 3-2, with 20 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals.
Earlier in the day, the Bacoor Strikers blasted the skidding Zamboanga Family Brand Sardines, 83-75.
Ex-pros Michael Mabulac and fellow All-Star and reigning league Most Valuable Player Gab Baal combined forces while team captain Oping Sumalinog also hit clutch baskets in towing the Strikers to their foureth consecutive win.
Bacoor now improved its win-loss record to 4-1 in the 2019-20 MPBL Lakan Cup.
Mabulac finished with a double-double performance of 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Banal also came away with a double-double showing of 10 points and 11 boards while Sumalinog added 12 markers.
Zamboanga, who fell to 1-3, did not have Raymond Valenzona as head coach as he was serving a suspension. Bai Cristobal took charge in lieu of him.
Reed Juntila and Leo De Vera had 14 and 12 points, respectively, for Zamboanga.
Bicol, on the other hand, outlasted Imus in overtime, 81-78, in the second game of the day.
Ronjay Buenafe scored five points in the extra period, helping the expansion squad Volcanoes to their third win in five games and their first back-to-back victories this season.
Buenafe had 26 points and eight rebounds while Chris Lalalta tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Mark Doligon led Imus with 19 points but needed 18 shot attempts to do so.
