Batang Gilas to flaunt tall frontline for U18 Asian Championship


The dream frontline of Kai Sotto and AJ Edu will make its debut come the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship.

Batang Gilas head coach Josh Reyes revealed the lineup that will compete in the qualifier for the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, Saturday afternoon.

Joining the two are college players Miguel Oczon and Dave Ildefonso of National University.

Carl Tamayo, Gerry Abadiano, Raven Cortez, Geo Chiu, and Bismark Lina are the holdovers from the Philippine-side that competed in the 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup.

Completing the lineup are NU’s Joshua Ramirez, FEU’s Xyrus Torres, San Beda’s Rhayyan Amsali, and Italy-raised floor general Dalph Panopio.

The continental meet will take place from August 5 to 11 in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

The Philippines is pooled with China, Lebanon, and UAE in Group B of the tournament.

The last time the country reached the World Cup in this age division was back in 1979 in Brazil.
