Bagunas powers Oita Miyoshi to come-from-behind win over Nagoya in V.League

Bryan Bagunas and his Oita Miyoshi completed a reverse sweep against Nagoya, 18-25, 23-25, 30-28, 26-24, 15-13, in the 2021-22 V. League Division 1 men’s tournament, Saturday at their home turf Cycle Shop Kodama Osu Arena.

The Filipino import went for 23 points on 20 attacks, two service aces, and a block. He made 51.3 percent of his spiking attempts at 20-of-39.

After a luckless first two sets that saw the Wolfdogs on the verge of a sweep, the Weisse Adler came to their senses.

Oita got one frame back after a thrilling 30-28 set before snatching the fourth, 26-24, to force a decider.

And in the fifth period, Bagunas and his squad proved to be steadier down the stretch to complete the upset, 15-13.

With the win, the Weisse Adler improved to 5-16, still at ninth but just one game behind Marck Espejo’s FC Tokyo at 6-15.

Oita Miyoshi playing excellent in five-setters has been a repeating occurrence, hiking their card to 4-2 in such games.

Emerson Rodriguez, despite playing only the first three sets, still finished with 15 points.

Super substitute Kenta Koga and Shota Fujiwara also chimed in 11 points apiece in the stunning win.

Bartosz Kurek did everything in his power to stop the Nagoya meltdown, making 40 points but was still not enough.

Yamazaki Akito added 13 points while Kenta Takanashi got 11 as the Wolfdogs slid to 10-7 but remained at the fifth spot.

Bagunas and Oita will look for a repeat tomorrow at 12 pm against Nagoya.
