Hong Kong bounced back from its opening loss to Vietnam, venting its ire on Indonesia, 25-22, 26-24, 25-18, for its first win in the AVC Challenge Cup for Women on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Coming off a 13-25, 17-25, 16-25 loss at the hands of the defending champions yesterday, Hong Kong rebounded instantly and vented its ire on the Indonesians to even its record at 1-1 in Pool B.
“We’re really happy because it’s one of our targets—we wanted to win against Indonesia. We know that they’re not at full strength because they only have 11 players, so this was our target match,” said Hong Kong team captain Yu Ying Chi.
“For set 1, we did really well in serving and receiving. Actually, for set 2, the coaches and even we were not really happy about it, but we finally took the set. That’s why we won set 3 as well,” she added.
Chim Wing Lam scored a game-high 18 points, 17 of which came from attacks, while Shum Lam fired 18 points as well to help lead Hong Kong to its bounce-back victory.
Yim Wing Ni added nine markers in the victory while Yu and Fong Ka Yi chipped in seven points each.
“But I think we have to learn from set 2; we cannot do the same thing in our upcoming match against Singapore, which is also a target match,” said Yu.
Hong Kong will take a one-day break before taking on Singapore on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Sabrina Agustina paced Indonesia with 12 points, while Nita Sesanti and Fanny Chayaningtyas had nine and eight points, respectively, in the loss.
Indonesia will look to rebound against Singapore tomorrow, Friday, at 4:00 PM.
