The two Philippine pairs in the 2025 BWF World Championships saw their campaigns come to an end in the Round of 32, bowing to seeded counterparts from Chinese Taipei on Saturday (Philippine time) at the Adidas Arena in Paris, France.
Nicole Albo and Lea Inlayo fell to Hsu Yin-Hui and Lin Jhih Yun, 15-21, 13-21, in the women’s doubles. Meanwhile, Solomon Padiz Jr. and Julius Villabrille absorbed a tough defeat against Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin, 15-21, 18-21, in the men’s doubles.
The result mirrored Alvin Morada and Christian Bernardo’s finish in the 2023 edition in Copenhagen. There, they also exited in the Round of 32 after losing to eventual champions Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae.
Albo and Inlayo showed grit in the second set, even seizing an 11-10 lead at the interval.
However, Hsu and Lin regained their momentum and held the Filipinas to just two more points the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, Padiz and Villabrille put up a stronger fight in their second game, cutting the deficit to three at 13-16.
The Nationals saved two of four match points by forcing consecutive errors from their opponents at the net, but Wang eventually sealed the victory with a decisive backcourt shot.
Though they fell short of advancing, both Filipino pairs earned valuable ranking points that could prove crucial in boosting their world standings and supporting the national federation’s long-term bid to qualify shuttlers for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.
